Blog Every Day in November : Light

#BEDN Today's word prompt: Light.

My focus on the word light will be much different than most. Although, I suspect that there'll be some others with a similar focus as this post.

Because today is Sunday and I'm a Christian, I want to focus on my faith today.

God's word tells us Jesus said in Matthew 11:29-30 this:
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."

Also, in John 1:3-5 it says this:
All things were made by him, and nothing was made without him. In him there was life, and that life was the light of all people. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has understood it.

As well as John 8:12 saying this:
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

Light is used in two different ways here. One is expressed as less weight to burden. The other is bringing light to darkness.

When applying both of them in scripture here they both lead to Jesus. When we join with Jesus our burdens are made less heavy. Then He brings light to our darkness. Darkness here is referring to sin and evil.

I'm not a fan of carrying heavy weight. It makes my body ache and hurt. When I have someone to share the load with it becomes light making it easier to bear. That's Jesus for me. He helps me carry the load, in fact, there's times when he takes the full load off me and carries it Himself. As the expression goes, "What a load off my shoulders!"

I'm not a fan of darkness either. Most people will use a nightlight so the dark is lightly illuminated. When we look at it in this context though, darkness equates to sin and evil. So, in terms of hiding in the darkness, all sorts of evil lurks. In our sin, we hide things thinking nobody can see it. It's our secret. As long as nobody knows, it's ok. Well, that's a lie satan likes to tell us. God knows everything, in the dark and in the light. There's nothing that can be hid from Him. He knows every little secret. Even if no human knows it. It will eat away at you until, "Oh snap!", a slip up. It's exposed. There's nothing you can do now. There is it!

I like this quote:
"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." -Mark Twain

2010 Words of life

[Image was taken by my husband.
Please do NOT copy.]

Last December I posted: My 2009 Resolution. There were some of you who also did this. I challenge each of you to seek words from the Lord and use scripture as your 2010 life verse(s). We do this in an effort to strive to be more Christ like and grow more in our faith instead of making new year's resolutions that we end up failing at. God's word is more powerful and challenging in that we seek Him daily. New year's resolution or empty promises. God's Word if full of wonderful promises that never get broken.

My word(s) for 2010 is light and life. My scripture verses are:

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

John 4:13-14
13 Jesus said, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Go to prayer and seek your life word(s) for your 2010 life scripture and make a statement to the World for the Lord.

I've also put my life scripture at the foot of my blog to be visible by all who visit. Won't you join me and participate in life scripture?

Light in the darkness

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word darkness on the walls of his cell. ~C.S. Lewis

Isaiah 60:19-20
19 “The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
   Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light,
   And your God your glory
.
20 Your sun shall no longer go down,
   Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the LORD will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning shall be ended.

John 1:4-5
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 8:12
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

1 John 1:5
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

[Note: emphasis mine.]

You've heard the expression: "You can run but you can not hide"? As God word says: I am the light of the world; God is light and in Him is no darkness at all; He will be your everlasting light.

God sees everything. God's glory reigns. HE is the Almighty God. No wiles of the devil can change that. Even if you refuse God, he has given you opportunity to redeem yourself through the salvation of Christ. HE is the light in the darkness.

Will you allow God's glory to shine in you?

Jesus, the Light of the World

John 8:12-20
12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

13 The Pharisees replied, “You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid.”

14 Jesus told them, “These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me. 15 You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone. 16 And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me. 17 Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact. 18 I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.”

19 “Where is your father?” they asked. Jesus answered, “Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.”

20 Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.

I know who and where my Father is. What about you?

And there was light!

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
--C.S. Lewis

Genesis 1:2-4
2 The earth was empty and had no form. Darkness covered the ocean, and God's Spirit was moving over the water. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, so he divided the light from the darkness.

Romans 13:11-13
11 Do this because we live in an important time. It is now time for you to wake up from your sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.12 The "night" is almost finished, and the "day" is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness and take up the weapons used for fighting in the light.13a Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day.

The video below really spoke to my heart today. When I came across C.S. Lewis' quote I felt the Holy Spirit compel me to post this today. When God created light he knew Jesus would become the living light and the video tells a story of Jesus becoming THE LIGHT of the World. Good shines its light while darkness hides. Will you shine your light for Jesus or continue to sleep and live in the dark? God's word tells us when Jesus was on the cross He uttered these words [John 19:30b]"It is finished." Then he bowed his head and died. Satan has no power. It is we who hand it to him. It is we who give him permission to do the evil in the dark! It's time to take back what belongs to God. Shine your lights bright & high!

I know where my Father is!

John 8:12-19

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." Then the Pharisees said to him, "You are testifying on your own behalf; your testimony is not valid." Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid because I know where I have come from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge by human standards; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is valid; for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. In your law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid. I testify on my own behalf, and the Father who sent me testifies on my behalf." Then they said to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."

This scripture is so convicting. We need to keep our hearts perks to the Holy Spirit within us and be ever mindful of God's leading us. When we follow him we are in "the" light and will never walk in darkness. I dunno about you but I'm afraid of "the dark". [Pun intended]. Can you answer the question "Where is your Father"? I pray that we can ALL know "the Father".
