What the Heck?

"Every now and then, it is good to be in a situation where you are forced to throw your full weight of dependence back onto the only shoulders strong enough to carry you. In crying out to God, you find out in time how good, how redemptive He really is. He is there. And He cares." Dennis Rainey | FamilyLife Today

After an accident in my life I was left undone! I found myself questioning what the heck was happening. I found this scripture in God's word comforting:
Psalm 63:
1 O God, You are my God;
         Early will I seek You;
         My soul thirsts for You;
         My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
         Where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
         My lips shall praise You.

Psalm 116:
6 The LORD preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your rest, O my soul,
For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have delivered my soul from death,
         My eyes from tears,
         And my feet from falling.
How could I question God's sovereignty? After speaking to my soul like that it all became clear to me that God uses everything in life for His purpose. My situation was no different. HE saved my life because He is using me for His purpose. To reach out to lost souls to bring them to Him.

Are you a lost soul seeking God or just seeking anything to understand and be loved? Reach for God's grace and mercy. He will not let you down. He is so mighty that nothing can get in His way. Surrender to HIM and allow Him to transform you like He has transformed me.

He loves each one no different than the next. He loves us all. Not some, but all. You won't be sorry you did. Your life will never be the same again. This isn't saying you will never hit tough times because I'm here to tell you that is not the case. God allows these tough times because He uses them to build our character and for His kingdom purpose. Even when we don't have a clue... God still uses us. It will be clear eventually. Whether in Heaven or on Earth. It's all for His glory! After all, it's not about us. It's fully about HIM. Our relationship with HIM. He wants each one of us to be His friend. We all like having friends, no? I know I do.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father God...I lift up my readers to YOU now. I pray that they will surrender their all to You and trust that You will take care of them. I pray that they will seek Your friendship and be comforted. I pray that it will become clear to them as you have shown me, what is going on in their lives. I know and trust Your love, grace and mercy Father. I pray they will too. I pray for the lost souls Father God in Jesus' name that those lost souls will seek and surrender to You. In Jesus' precious and holy name, amen.

A measure of kindness

Hello and welcome to the blog. Today marks the start of a new word from my word list. Last month we focused on long-suffering. This month (May), you guessed it by the title, we will focus on kindness. If you would like to get up to speed on the word list you can find other posts here.

Here's something to think about:
Within each of us exists the image of God, however disfigured and corrupted by sin it may presently be. God is able to recover this image through grace as we are conformed to Christ. - Alister McGrath

Ok, now the definition of kindness:
  1. the state or quality of being kind: kindness to animals.
  2. a kind act; favor: his many kindnesses to me.
  3. kind behavior: I will never forget your kindness.
  4. friendly feeling; liking.
Basically, the first three are relatively in the same category; the act of being kind. The last, number 4, deals with the feeling of kindness as in a friendliness. I'll do my best to break these down. I may only get 2 or 3 lessons from this. We'll see.

There was a movie, "Pay It Forward", that many jumped on board with and decided to put it into action for themselves. Why? Because it is showing random acts of kindness where each person that a kind act was done to will pass the same kindness on to someone they think deserves the kindness. The concept is great. Is it a feeling of "I have to do this" and it's done begrudgingly, or is it a feeling of "I want to do this" because it's the right thing to do?

Let's see what God's word says:

2 Corinthians 6:4-10
4 But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, 5 in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; 6 by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, 7 by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8 by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Colossians 3:12-13
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

2 Peter 1:5-8
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Each of these scriptures talk about the character of man as the elect of God, ministers of HIS word. We do because it's in Godly character and it honors God, not man. Verse 6 in 2 Cor. 6 above mentions sincere love. When we are sincere it shows Godliness because it's "real", not fake.

I can remember a time in my life where I was "fake" just because it helped me to just get through something I really didn't want to be a part of. I was being impatient and just wanted to be done. Basically, being selfish. Selfishness is not kind. It's the opposite of kind. It's cruel. I eventually got over it. God put me in my place and humbled me.

Where do you stand today? Do you need an attitude adjustment and need to get humbled? I know I have and still do sometimes. Seek the LORD today in sincere love for HIM to teach you kindness. It's not easy if you've been a cruel person. But, looking back at that quote above, "God is able to recover this image through grace as we are conformed to Christ."

Let Jesus Christ transform you... be conformed to HIM. You won't regret it. I do not!

Prayer: Dear Father God, I lift up my readers to You this day. I pray that Your message within this blog post will reach their hearts and comfort them in their time of distress and soften that heart to receive Your love today. I pray that Your kindness will transform each of us. I pray that I will be the embodiment of Your kindness to win hurting hearts and lost souls to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Jealous God

This is tough! It's tough to really "get" this. But, I'll try my best at it.

Let's first see what the dictionary says about jealousy:
  1. feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages (often fol. by of): He was jealous of his rich brother.
  2. characterized by or proceeding from suspicious fears or envious resentment: a jealous rage; jealous intrigues.
  3. solicitous or vigilant in maintaining or guarding something: The American people are jealous of their freedom.
  4. Bible. intolerant of unfaithfulness or rivalry: The Lord is a jealous god.
Looking at this from the human perspective, we know a lot about jealousy, don't we? I've heard many times over people say something like: "he's green with envy", (enviously - with jealousy; in an envious manner; "he looked at his friend's new car jealously"). We humans hate to see someone doing better or have better than each other. You've also probably heard this phrase: "keeping up with the joneses". We're all too busy trying to impress each other with all of our bling and trying to make ourselves superior to the next. That's looking at it from the materialistic view. Humans are a materialistic people. We tie our identity up with our "things". There's even a movie out called "Keeping up with the Joneses". Imagine that! Here's an interview with the main characters. Listen to what Demi Moore says toward the end.

Here's what God's word says:
Exodus 20:5b
For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God

Exodus 34:14
14 You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.

Deuteronomy 4:24
24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Here's some quotes to tie into God's word.
Matthew Henry says this:
"Jealously is called the rage of a man, Pr 6:34; but in God it is holy and just displeasure. Those cannot worship Godaright, who do not worship him only."

Here's some other quotes:
He that is not jealous is not in love.  ~St. Augustine
Jealousy and love are sisters.  ~Russian Proverb
Jealousy would be far less torturous if we understood that love is a passion entirely unrelated to our merits. ~Paul Eldridge

This is what I say about keeping up with the Joneses:

Speaking on God being jealous, taking away the human jealous element and looking at it from a supernatural point of view. Even though there is some similarities in the two types. God wants a relationship with me. If I decide to worship a different god or many gods other than GOD, He's going to be jealous, with rage. Because He created me and He wants me to be HIS. It's liken to a child telling a parent that they are divorcing their parent and marrying a new parent without cause, rhyme or reason. Parents? Does that not hurt? Of course! It would simply rip my heart out that my child decided she were getting a new parent and tossing me aside. I would be so jealous, green with envy. Who knows what I would do, angry with rage, fire!

It's the same concept with God. As mentioned in Deuteronomy 4:24, God is a consuming fire. We all know what happens with fire. That tells me that those who choose to worship, honor and praise other gods will burn in hell. Um... hell doesn't have flame retardants or fire extinguishers. It is an all consuming fire. If you've ever been burned by fire you have some idea of what that is like. I have and I never want to experience an eternal consuming fire. Torment!

Who do you choose today? God loves you and wishes to have a relationship with you. HE is an everlasting, loving God.

If this is hard and you don't know who or where to turn to, confide in your pastor/church. If you don't have one contact me via this blog with an email address to contact you directly. The comments "never" get posted until I publish them. If you wish your comment only for me and not be published let me know in your comment. I will guide you in whatever Godly way I'm able.

If you have any prayer requests, leave them in the comments. If you prefer them not to be published just type somewhere in the comment "keep private". I will not publish it.

Remember, God loves you and so do I; because God first loved me, even though I'm a sinful being. He forgives our sins and wipes us clean, white as snow.

Prayer: Dear Father God, I thank you for forgiving my sins. I pray for all those who need forgiveness and seek it, they're already forgiven through Jesus at Calvary. I lift up my readers to YOU Father God that they would see the error of their ways and hand it all over to YOU and accept Your love and salvation. Show each of us the "right" way to You Father. In Jesus' name, amen.

Good Friday [20100402]

Daily Christian Wisdom

Good Friday is the mirror held up by Jesus...it turns us to that cross and to his eyes and we hear these words, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." - Robert G. Trache

Luke 23:33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Matthew 17:45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 59 When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.

This is the day of remembrance of Jesus giving Himself as my savior. Thank You Jesus, Father God, Friend. I love You with all I am. I bow humbly before You LORD and give myself to Your service. In Jesus' name, amen.

If you don't know Jesus and His gift of salvation and you would like to, you can click God's Simple Plan of Salvation link and follow the steps. God loves you dear one. It matters not what you've done. You are forgiven. Please come to Him and let Him wash you clean and give you a fresh start.

Happy Good Friday!

Troubling God

"Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not to come at all." ~D.L. Moody

Psalm 53:2 - God looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
Matthew 11:28-29 - Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
James 1:4-6 - But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
Hebrews 11:5-6 - By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Don't be fooled by the adversary into thinking that God doesn't want you to come to Him. It's clear in HIS word that HE "does" want us to come to Him. He wants to commune with you and me. Find comfort in the Father God. HE will reward you as His word says. Be faithful and seek God.

Soak in God's presence and listen to the words of the song in the video below. Worship with me!

Part of the Family

Daily Christian Quote
I was homeless, hopeless, and nameless. Then God came to me and took me in, and adopted me as His son. - Steven Curtis Chapman

Ephesians 1:3-6
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

From the beginning of time it was prearranged, predestined, previously determined by God the Father that we would be adopted unto HIM and be accepted into HIS family. That's a promise. All we need to do is accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Being a part of God's family to me is the most precious gift one could ever receive. Anything outside of that is peanuts. If I had not accepted Christ as my savior my life would completely empty; void of "real and true" life. God's love is so precious. To pass it by is a sin in and of itself. Pure disobedience. I'm not ready to accept the consequences of disobedience; hell for eternity.

HIS grace is sufficient. All you have to do is accept His free gift of salvation stepping into His glorious light.

Praise, honor & glory to The Father God in Heaven.

Prayer: Father God, in Jesus' name, I lift up the lost souls who are stuck between Heaven & Hell. I lift them up to You asking that their hearts become softened and that they hear Your call unto Yourself and they that will abide in Your in the safety of Your protecting wings. In Jesus' name, amen.

Daily Christian Quote -- Eternity & Justice

Daily Christian Quote

Justice is a temporary thing that must at last come to an end; but the conscience is eternal and will never die. ~Martin Luther

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
And will say, ‘Destroy!’

Matthew 19:20-21
20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?"
21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

Are you ready for Eternity? If not, I'd suggest you get ready!

Draw me near, nearer, blessed Lord

Daily Christian Quote

When we sing, ‘draw me near, nearer, blessed Lord,’ we are not thinking of the nearness of place, but of the nearness of relationship. It is for increasing degrees of awareness that we pray, for a more perfect consciousness of the divine Presence. We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts. - A.W. Tozer

Why do you sing to God? Do you sing praises to God to be nearer to Him? Are you seeking a closer relationship with God? He is right here. Just a whisper to God would beckon Him and He'll respond immediately. Call on God today. Even just a whisper!

Hope

I find hope in the Word of God. I find hope in people who are around me who are hopeful. I find hope in the music that I listen to. I find hope in the church I attend. I find hope in my family. -Thelma Wells

Acts 2:26
No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.
Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
1 Timothy 4:10
This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.

Where do you find hope? If you lack hope seek God and His word. Your hope is in God. He will comfort your weary soul. Praise be to the God of Heaven!

Prayer: Dear Father You know that there are many suffering emotionally, mentally, spiritually & physically. My prayer is that they would find hope in You and the gift of Salvation through Jesus. In Jesus' name, amen.

Greedy

gardem

The god of greed is a cheat. His delights have the power to dazzle and excite but they can satisfy nobody. - John White

Proverbs 1:15-19
15 My child, don’t go along with them!
Stay far away from their paths.
16 They rush to commit evil deeds.
    They hurry to commit murder.
17 If a bird sees a trap being set,
    it knows to stay away.
18 But these people set an ambush for themselves;
they are trying to get themselves killed.
19 Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money;
    it robs them of life.

If you've ever dealt with greedy people you know about this. Honestly, our world is full of greed. It affects everyone in some fashion or another. We hear & read about the gas prices a lot. Those controlling it are no doubt greedy. What about the glutton who can't seem to get enough. In the glutton's eyes there's never enough. They will go after what they want and trample those in their path. Experience that? Yea, thought so. It's a mental issue and satan is the controller. Such deception. As God's word says in v. 19-it robs them of life. I also read in one or two scriptures that they will not inherit the Kingdom of God. I didn't want to overload my post with verses. You can search online for scripture that mention greed. You'll find plenty. God does not like the proud and greedy attitudes & behavior. We must repent and seek God's forgiveness and lean not unto our own understanding. Let God have it. He'll take care of you.

Prayer: Dear Father God, I lift up this greediness to You. I pray Father that those who suffer with greed will seek You and repent. I pray they will finally experience joy and Your grace with mercy laced in. Your mercy & grace sees us all through even when we don't deserve it. Thank YOU Father God for loving and caring for us so much. Thank You for giving us Your Son, Jesus as our savior. I love You Father God. In Jesus' name, amen.

Hope Quote

clipped from www.beliefnet.com

God's Grace

"What gives me the most hope every day is God’s grace; knowing that his grace is going to give me the strength for whatever I face, knowing that nothing is a surprise to God." - Rick Warren

Psalm 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.
Romans 12:2-5
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
2 Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Daily Christian Quote -- William P. White

Daily Christian Quote

The Bible is a harp with a thousand strings...Play on all of them, keeping them in their places in the divine scale, and you will hear heavenly music all the time.

William P. White

Psalm 33:1-3
1 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous!
For praise from the upright is beautiful.
2 Praise the LORD with the harp;
Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

Luke 4:4
4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

Luke 11:28
28 But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

I don't know about you, but I like heavenly music. I love harmony. In today's Christian churches we need harmony & unity.

Father to the fatherless

Caring for orphans in the same way God cares for us is a privilege; it is an invitation to join God right at the center of His heart as the Father to the fatherless. ~Steven Curtis Chapman

What God's word says:
Psalm 68:4-6a
4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
Extol Him who rides on the clouds,
By His name YAH,
And rejoice before Him.
5 A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
6 God sets the solitary in families;

Do you feel orphaned, alienated, abandoned? Come to the Father and HE will take you in and make you part of His family. There are no orphans with God. All can come and be a part of God's divine family who come to Him. Will you come? Come and be a part of HIS Family. Let him comfort your heart and soul today. You will not be sorry you did.

The first video is a song made by Steven Curtis Chapman to his adopted children.

The real title should say: "There are no orphans of God". That's what the words of the song say. The title has just been cut to say Orphans of God.

Daily Offering - [4/4/2009]

Daily Christian Quote
Love more persons more--love them more impersonally, more unselfishly, without thought of return. The return, never fear, will take care of itself. ~Henry Drummond

Prayer for Those In Despair
Send your life-giving Spirit upon those who despair of living, O generous and loving God. If it is your will, let them find rest from their labors that they may have peace. If there is a call they have not heard, open their eyes and ears to know it that they may find the joy of abundant life. Grant them your blessing this day and every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Offered by: ~Vienna Cobb Anderson

Inspiration Quote of the Day
The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people.
by: ~G.K. Chesterton

On the lighter side:
Today's joke
A Meeting With the Board
After a long, dry sermon, the minister announced that he wished to meet with the church board after the service. The first man to arrive was a stranger.

“You misunderstood my announcement. This is a meeting of the board,” said the minister.

“I know,” said the man. “If there is anyone here more bored than I am, I’d like to meet him.”

God's Grace

I do not at all understand the mystery of grace--only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us. ~Anne Lamott

Romans 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation (atonement) by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance (showing patience) God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

I so am undeserving of God's gift to me. But, because HE is who HE is the gift if given to me free of charge. I accept YOUR gift Father God. I didn't have to pay for it because Jesus did. My debts are forgiven, my sins washed away by God's grace to me. That gift is also offered to you, yes, you. As you can see in His word above it states ALL. Not some, but all, have been given this gift. HE loves everyone alike. He holds no prejudices. He has no favorites. We are ALL equal in His sight! If you haven't accepted this free gift, I extend the invitation to you. Accept Christ as your savior and receive the gift of God's grace. You can find a place here>>>>> God's simple plan of salvation. Send me a message if you need assistance.

Lord Jesus, I pray for the new believer who just accepted Your gift of salvation through Your grace. I pray that You show them the way Father God. Give them the wisdom to find the right bible believing, teaching & preaching church to feed their soul. I thank You Father God for giving us the undeserving gift of salvation through Your grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Daily Christian Quote [3/27/09]

From God's word:
1 Corinthians 1:9

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Quote:
Knowledge can be fully given to man only in a Person, never in a doctrine. Faith is not the holding of correct doctrine, but personal fellowship with the living God. ~William Temple

And there was light!

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
--C.S. Lewis

Genesis 1:2-4
2 The earth was empty and had no form. Darkness covered the ocean, and God's Spirit was moving over the water. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, so he divided the light from the darkness.

Romans 13:11-13
11 Do this because we live in an important time. It is now time for you to wake up from your sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.12 The "night" is almost finished, and the "day" is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness and take up the weapons used for fighting in the light.13a Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day.

The video below really spoke to my heart today. When I came across C.S. Lewis' quote I felt the Holy Spirit compel me to post this today. When God created light he knew Jesus would become the living light and the video tells a story of Jesus becoming THE LIGHT of the World. Good shines its light while darkness hides. Will you shine your light for Jesus or continue to sleep and live in the dark? God's word tells us when Jesus was on the cross He uttered these words [John 19:30b]"It is finished." Then he bowed his head and died. Satan has no power. It is we who hand it to him. It is we who give him permission to do the evil in the dark! It's time to take back what belongs to God. Shine your lights bright & high!

Quote of the Day [2/25/2009]

Daily Christian Quote

We have been given God in our souls and Christ in our flesh. We have the power to believe where others deny, to hope where others despair, to love where others hurt. by: Brennan Manning, “The Ragamuffin Gospel”
Isaiah 61:3
To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

Psalm 40:2
He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.

Prayer of the Day

God of the desert, as we follow Jesus into the unknown, may we recognize the tempter when he comes; let it be your bread we eat, your world we serve and you alone we worship.
