Why Worry?

Luke 12:22-34
22 Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
29 “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. [Note: Emphasis added is mine.]

In today's economy most people are fearful and worried. Fearful that they will lose everything. Worried about their income. Let's consider God's word listed above. When we seek the kingdom of God first HE will provide for our needs. When our time here on Earth ends we are not going to be able to take our Earthly treasures with us. We focus a lot on that. We feel we "need" this and that. And we don't seem to get enough. We think we need more and more. Sure God doesn't wish us to live miserably boring lives. However, I must ask, "where is your true treasure focus"? As in verse 34 Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also. So, consider this; if your treasure is bound up on Earthly things what's going to happen if you lose it all? I'd rather put my mind Heavenward. There's where the true treasure will be. If that's what you're concerned about then it's high time you got your vertical alignment in order, don't you agree?

  1. Everytime I travel the highways of NC this time of year, I am always surprised and delighted to see the garden of wildflowers that liven up the fields between the divided road. I cannot help but think about this passage of Scripture when I see them.

Indeed, where our treasure lies is where our heart resides also. I've cast mine with the King. I know that you have also. May our lives breathe with the living witness of our hope so that others will choose to find their rest in God.

  2. Kimberly, this is absolutely beautiful and powerful. A word for all to feed on and to walk in. Why worry? That's the truth! Your question, "However, I must ask, "where is your true treasure focus"?" is dead on!

My treasure is not with this earth but with His Kingdom. My heart is with His heart and I pray that we all can walk out whatever we face with praise on our lips to our GOD keeping our focus on the WORD and not the world!

    Love you.

  3. Love your exhortation about worry. I have wavered much lately. And God brings me back to center. Life in Him is fear of worry because His perfect love casts out all fear. Gotta remain there.

    Thank you, friend!

    Appreciate your ministry, Kimberly.
